Editing or deleting a post
What can be undone, and what can't.
Both go through the ⋯ at the top right of the post, reachable from the feed as well as from the post's own page.
That menu carries three actions, no more
"Edit post", "Delete", "Report". Sharing is on the post's action bar — not in this menu. And to block someone from one of their posts, you go through their profile: tap their name, then the profile's ⋯ → "Block".
Editing
The post's ⋯ → "Edit post"
Editing reopens the post. Watch out for mentions and hashtags: they're blocks, not ordinary text. A mention carries the person's username — retouching it by hand can break it.
Fifteen minutes, or the first real reaction
Two things close the door, and whichever comes first wins.
Time: 15 minutes. That's how long a post is still considered fresh, enough to catch a typo or a missing word. After that you read: "The editing window has closed. A post can only be edited in the minutes following publication."
Other people's reactions. Even inside the 15 minutes, editing closes as soon as your post has actually circulated:
| Threshold reached | Editing closes |
|---|---|
| 5 likes | ✅ |
| 2 comments | ✅ |
| 2 reposts | ✅ |
The reason is easy to grasp if you put yourself in the shoes of the people who reacted. Someone who liked, commented or reposted did so for what was written at that moment. Letting the author rewrite the text afterwards would make them endorse something they never read — and that is exactly how you build a trap for commenters.
Which is why the message talks about views and comments:
"This post has already been seen and commented on. It can no longer be edited."
Depending on the format, different things can be edited
A media file already uploaded is never replaced: an image, a sound or a video has been processed and distributed, and swapping them under unchanged text would mislead everyone who already saw them. What stays open is the text around it.
| What you read | What stays editable |
|---|---|
| "The audio can't be changed. You can rewrite the text that goes with it." | The text only |
| "The product can't be swapped here. You can rewrite the text that goes with it." | The text only |
| "A video can't be edited after publication." | Nothing, today — not even the text |
In other words: reread yourself before publishing a video. It's the one format no screen catches for you.
Deleting
A deletion can't be undone
Deleted content isn't recoverable. Get into the habit of copying your text somewhere else first, if you plan to post it again.
What happens to orders, if it was a product
Deleting the product listing doesn't touch orders already placed: the name, photo, price and quantity are frozen at the moment of purchase.
To take a product off sale without losing it, archive it rather than delete it. See Publishing, editing and archiving a product.
If the options don't appear
| Situation | What it means |
|---|---|
| You're on a page run by a team | You're missing a permission — see Roles and permissions |
| A penalty is running | The screen names the capability removed and the time left |
| It isn't your post | You only edit and delete your own content. For someone else's, there's reporting |
On a closed page, nothing is erased
The posts of a closed page stay readable where they were posted, signed "Friym user", but are no longer surfaced in any feed. Closing isn't deleting. See Closing a page.
